    FFN Payload crashing

Idk if it is the game as a whole or the server but everyone keeps crashing when they play for about 20 min. Fix please?

    Happy New Year!

Yeppp it keeps happening, I can play about 5-15 minutes before crashing. It's on different maps. No lag spikes.

    Weird stuff.

Does anybody have any more details about this? Random crashes are hard to figure out so the more detail you guys can provide the better our server guys can spend their time looking into it.

Server only crashed once, which is usually after Barnblitz or thundermountain... as far as I know, other than that I only get Snapshot overflow on several maps.

EDIT: Some users say that after barnblitz or thundermountain it crashes the server. Anyone know why?

I only ever see it crash from Thundermountain and I do know the probable cause (It's always during the Teamswapp after completing Stage3). That's the main reason to get get Thuinder removed from the rotation infact and an educated guess (after seeing it happen so many times) is the Bomb explosion is a new/non-standard particle file that sets up an overflow loop with player variables (players affected by it) that crashes once the server tries to change their teams and attrib flags.

...I'm not sure why Barnblitz would crash though, I've never seen it crash so it may only be client-side for certain people. Or b/c it's the only other PL map with a Wooden final_CP, it could be using the same particle file as Thunder.

FTR, I don't think people are talking about the server itself crashing, they're talking about them personally crashing.

I personally have been spending a little less time on FFN PL because of the constant crashing.

Reliable Snapshot Overflow I get on any server. But HL2.exe crash very rarely happens to me on any other servers, at all, but I rarely go more than 2 maps before I crash on FFN Payload. I can't remember the last time I played Thundermountain on FFN PL, but I do know that many of my HL2.exe crashes on FFN PL are during Frontier(Frontier is also Reliable Snapshot Overflow WHORE! Yet I love that whore.) and/or Swiftwater and/or Wintertown.

That being said, it doesn't really matter what map we're on, I will still crash, and then reboot the game, and then get on auto-retry, and then wait another 20 minutes before I say screw it and go to another server. The only other servers that I have found to be similarly unstable, in the past few months, are Trade servers.

Basically for every hour I spend on FFN Payload, I crash at least once, often twice, sometimes thrice.

For the longest time I thought it was client side, and it might very well be, but I have tried re-installing the game, defragging everything, thoroughly cleaned my PC, checked my ports, tried tweaking all the performance hoggers(AA, VS, etc) on and off, but it still happens, very regularly, on FFN PL. Whereas I have made sure to track any and all HL2.exe crashes I might get on other servers since the fall, and minus Trade servers, I simply do not get HL2.exe crashes elsewhere.

But at least The Great Lag Plague of 2011 is finally gone and over with.

Might have to do with the new subdomains? Try using them?

Flik and Razer are working on fixing stuff up and trying to figure out what is going on.

If it's something server side that is causing the crashes hopefully we will fix it during this maintenance. As it stands right now we have no clue what specifically is causing this problem.
