Interesting - the Dutch court has ruled that objects in games are essentially real goods for several compelling reasons.
Certainly sets a precedent for other court cases involving virtual items...

The hilarious thing is that if they had ruled digital objects weren't goods (and thus not a case of theft) I wonder what that would set as precedent for digital pira-- Sorry, I meant copyrighted content distribution. Don't want to insult the kind of pirate that steals ships.

Would the penalty for stealing an unusual hat (unofficially priced at 500 dollars) be harsher than nabbing a 10 dollar tangible hat from Target?
Per the MAFIAA standards, that $500 hat would cost you $500,000,000. Even moreso if you duped it and gave the original back to the owner.
