I think the Engine Shader automatically dials back a lot of the specularity you normally see in the default Maya renders. ...which was something I've never much like anyway. AKA: shiny/metallic surfaces. ...I think it's all a waste of resources... And definitely not fitting for a "Painterly" stylization.
I think a much bigger factor and one that was an issue in GW1... is how much Anti-Aliasing can it put out and still run smooth? IOW: Arenanet's Texturing is always amazing but will the polycount look shorted/disjointed again and what kind of clipping issues are they hiding?
