MCNOBSjarswitcher ("Minecraft no bull$#@! jar switcher") download (12 KB):
Minecraft MCNOBSjarswitcher V1.0.0.7z
The download is a 7-zip-file, so you might have to
download the program for this current de facto standard of file compression.
It's a simple Visual Basic 6 program, source is included, no installation necessary on Windows 7, on an older Windows you
might have to install the standard VB6 runtime files using
vbrun60sp6.exe.
THE IDEA / PURPOSE/ USE
If you have several different "minecraft.jar" files, you can keep them all in the %appdata%.minecraft\bin folder under names like "minecraft.jar v1.9pre3" or "Original v1.8.1 Minecraft binary minecraft.jar", the only thing that matters is that the name must contain the string "minecraft.jar". I suggest something like the former naming scheme because it keeps all your jars in one place if sorted alphabetically.
The program will list all these files, but the string "minecraft.jar" will be stripped away, it's a simple slick solution to keep it all in one place, and you don't have to jump through any hoops.
!!! CAUTION !!! DANGER !!! ATTENTION !!!
The moment you select an entry of the "...minecraft.jar..." file list, the original "minecraft.jar" file
will immediately be replaced with this other file. So, if you have, for example, Minecraft 1.8.1 officially installed, but want to add v1.9pre3 to the mix, don't just have your additional "minecraft.jar v1.9pre3" (or whatever you want to name it) in the folder - also have "minecraft.jar v1.8.1" in the folder. So, you should then make a copy of the existing "minecraft.jar" that you know to be "1.8.1" and give it a nice name.
The original "minecraft.jar" file will be swatted like a fly with one click and no questions asked. I repeat: This happens when you select an entry from the list, not before.
If you keep this program in the same folder where you have your "Minecraft.exe", you can even start Minecraft from this program. And you can open the Minecraft bin folder. I suggest to have the Minecraft.exe (and this program) in the "%appdata%\.minecraft" folder right away to keep your computer tidy.
