    Freezing problems

I haven't been able to find any answers anywhere else, so I was hoping you guys would be able to help me.

Last night TF2 began freezing on me after playing for a little while. This hasn't happened at all before last night, so I'm wondering what's going on. After playing for, I don't know, anywhere from 15 minutes on into the game, I'll just freeze and the sound will loop. I can usually get out of this by hitting the Windows key, and from the desktop I just kill the TF2 exe with Task Manager.

The weird thing is, I'm still sort of in game sometimes when this happens. If I go to the desktop and try to bring TF2 back up, I'll hear everything people are saying, and I can still type to people in game. I can also fire my weapon and reload and still hear the sounds, but all I'm able to see is the desktop.

I've verified the game files, but it got stuck at 100% for a while and I just cancelled it, because I figured that probably wasn't even the problem anyway. I thought maybe my laptop was overheating, but if I go back into the game after I freeze, it waits a while before doing it again. I figure if it's overheating, it'll happen minutes after I'm in the game. Last night was the first time this has happened, but it's done it every single time I've played for any decent amount of time today, so I'm wondering what could have changed.

If you guys have any idea of what's going on, please let me know, I'd appreciate it.

Also, I should mention that in the past week or so, my whole computer's been developing freezing problems. At first, Firefox was just freezing up occasionally and it would bog my whole laptop down for a minute or two. I've been using Chrome on and off to see if it was just a Firefox problem, and it just locked up on me again. I think this may be more of a hardware issue with my laptop, as much as I hate to hear it.

So far all I've done is run CCleaner, defrag with Defraggler, and I ran a Windows hard drive scan earlier today to see if my hard drive was dying on me, but I was busy when it finished and didn't get to see if there were any results. I've heard I should try memtest, but that might wait a little while. I've also scanned for malware with Malwarebytes and MSE, and while I haven't finished full scans on either program, I'm pretty sure it's not malware.

Alright, a Windows Memory Diagnostic scan didn't show any problems with the RAM, and the hard drive test yesterday apparently didn't do anything. Minecraft is also freezing up the computer a lot as well. I'm honestly debating on formatting and installing Ubuntu or something, at least until I can get paid and order myself another Windows 7 disc for cheap from my college. I don't really want to lose all of my Steam stuff though, even if it does freeze up a ton.

Did you try doing start, run, msconfig. Take anything out of startup and services you dont think it needs or may be causing problems ? Basically anything that isnt microsoft or one of your drivers for your devices. If it says unknown it needs to be unchecked. After you do that restart and see if it helps also check your startup folder for anything.
