After four years, I'm building a new computer. The main use will be for gaming and work with ArcGIS and CAD. With many thanks to Denz3r, we were able to put together a list of parts. The monitor is 28" at a 1920x1200 resolution.
Here is that list.

So now I ask for your criticisms.
Edit: removed memory cooling
Getting a new hdd instead of the old deathstar
How much does it all total? ~1,500?

Has it for $750. Add that to $1,500 and sounds about right.
16 GB of Ram...a little much don't you think? What do you plan on doing with this? You better be FRAPSing Battlefield 3.
- CPU: Looks fine, but keep in mind that with the case/CPU cooling you're buying, you can easily OC a lesser CPU to get equal performance. i7's are very good at this. Currently my i7 920 (2.66ghz) is running close to 4ghz.
- CPU Cooling: Any non-stock cooling is fine, but this is overkill unless you plan to OC.
- CPU Thermal Compound: Proper application > brand of paste
- Memory: Looks good. Have the same series myself. Those fancy heatsinks are actually very functional.
- Memory Cooling: Absolutely positively do not need. In fact, I've seen people completely FUBAR their airflow while using unnecessary fans like these.
- Motherboard: Fine, but two gripes: Because it only supports 4 DIMMs, upgrading memory will be a hassle. If you stick to your 16gb plan, this shouldn't be an issue. Secondly, and this is strictly opinion, for the price of the board you should be getting SAS support. More on that below.
- Video Card: Looks fine. It will cost half as much next year, so plan on SLI-ing it.
- SDD: IMO, SSD is not a good choice right now. The GB/Dollar ratio is terrible, the failure and DOA rate is higher than platter drives, and if it fails, have fun with the small fortune it costs to attempt to recover data. As far as performance is concerned, it's better, but it's not worth it. IMO.
Rather than SSD, try a 15k RPM SAS drive. The only difference that I as a sys engineer and avid VMer can tell, is in benchmarking. Additionally, because so many people are unfamiliar with the SAS interface, they buy it expecting to plug it in as a SATA drive. They end up returning the unused drive, and it becomes an "open box" special. (Newegg Item N82E16822148538R. $109 for a 300gb 15k RPM. OH SHI)- PSU: Good future-proofing and amperage on the 12v, but more than you need.
- Case: Sexy. Though keep in mind some PSUs have trouble with cable lengths in relation to full towers.
