    New Graphics Card?

Hello all! I've just bought Battlefield 3, and it turns out that my 2 year old computer can't handle it, even on the lowest settings :\

SO! It's time for a new graphics card (as the CPU meets requirements, but my graphics card is literally the lowest end NVidia that will run the game), and I was hoping the good people of freefrag could give me advice on a card that is powerful enough to run this and the games of the future (lookin at you, skyrim). I do have a decent chunk of change available, from past birthdays, so I'm hoping to get something on the higher end.

Until you get the new card, you can always try playing the game windowed. It might help. Press ALT + ENTER.

Also, I heard that the game only uses DX9 or DX10 by default but supports DX11. You have to enable DX11 features in the console. So take that into consideration if you want to max your graphical experience.

Need info about your computer, including; PSU (noting also, whether you have the connectors for a higher end card), CPU, and other possible PCI devices that might be affected by larger cards in the area. Also, just for the hell of it, do you have 32 bit or 64 bit os?

Denzer, what exactly do you need to know about the PSU, as the info is all in chinese save wattages. The card is a GTX 260, and is huge (so space shouldn't be a problem, I mean it's REALLY BIG), and I don't really know if it has all the needed connectors, though the PC is only 2 years old, so I'm hoping it does.

The PSU says max output 460 watts, tell me if there's anything else about it you need to know, and thanks!

    EDIT: I have a 64 bit OS

The card I have is a GeForce GTX 260, which is on the lower side for most new games (as in BF3 stutters like a madman on low settings), and I've really been itching to upgrade it.

Oh, almost forgot, my CPU is an Intel Core i7 Extreme 975 @ 3.33GHz, Bloomfield, 45nm, if it matters.

I run it just fine with a 260. I wonder why it won't work for you.

p.s. HOW DO THE RADEON NUMBERS WORK D:[/QUOTE]

Pretty much all graphics cards model numbers work the same. The first digit tends to be the generation of the card (current for nvidia is 5, current for ati is 6), the next number is normally the set/series that the card belongs to (something like: 1 is low end, 2-5 is mid range, 6-7 is high end and 8-9 is enthusiast) the remaining numbers are the particulars, small details of difference. Then the are prefixes/suffixes for the category they fall into (M for mobile, GTX is better than GT and so on)
    Here are a few examples:

ATI Radeon 5850M is better than an ATI Radeon 6130M, however being from the previous generation, the card is an enthusiast card made to perform very well where the 6130 is actually an integrated graphics chipset.

An ATI Radeon 5870 and an ATI Radeon 5850 are essentially being the same card, being in the same performance range and generation. Its just that the 5870 has a higher default (safe) clock speed for its memory and cores (at the cost of slight more power/heat) compared to the 5850, and the 5850 can be equipped with slower GDDR3 to make it cheaper.

I'm not super sure, but if you wanna invest, get like a GeForce GTX 560 or 560Ti or around there, that will do just fine provided you have the power

Huh, that's really weird! I turn everything to low, and AA is off, but i cant turn without massive stuttering lag!

Handsup, thanks so much for the info, and I had just stumbled on the 560 and 560Ti when my power went out :C
I'll do some more research on them when I get it back :3
