    Unresponsiveness in SWToR.

I don't have time to pull out my full feelings about it, but i'm sure alot of people who have come from WoW that play this are feeling EXACTLY what this guy is saying.

STAR WARS: The Old Republic - Ability Delay -- Character Responsiveness (This will make or break SW:TOR)

There's alot of assumptions thrown around, but they all hold weight in the end... i'll post more later when I have time.. but i'm curious as to what everyone else thinks about this at the moment before I can throw my coin into the pond.

I will say that I do hope they fix this issue sometime.. sooner rather than later... but sometime.

As a scoundrel I experience this issue alot and most smugglers experience this right off with our crouch ability. First off our crouch ability is on the action bar like a normal move and if you use it there is a delay but if you use a quick key it does it instantly. So my feeling on this is that its not exactly responsiveness of the character but actually another issue with the UI. I think the UI is actually what causes the delay in the moves, if we could set moves directly to a key without touching the UI I feel they would work like they are supposed to.

There are so many issues with the UI I think they are almost better off scrapping the one they have and build a new one.

    Oh wow... just wow.

TOR is meant to have a combat system akin to KOTOR, an ability queue. In the turoials it explain that after an ability is off the GCD you can press it and it will be queued to be done after your current ability is finished, however moving/jumping/interrupt clears this invisible "ability queue".

In the gameplay options there is a setting for how long you can have the invisible ability queue set, just put it down to zero and you get the exact same responsiveness as wow.

IT is default set to around 0.25 seconds, which yes is alot, but with it set all he way up to 0.5 seconds the game feels alot like KOTOR, where you line up abilities to get used in combat. I find the 0.5 seconds useful sometimes when doing tank and spank style without worrying about adds, because I can line up my rotation and then worry about positioning or support while my abilities just play through themselves for the next second or two.

I agree that formost people this is completely unfavorable, and it is 100%unfavorable in PvP. The UI is kinda buggy and there are some unresolved issues. There IS an innate UI delay that occursunfortunately because the GCD animation will actually bug out and take more than 1s to finish, but that isn't what this guy talks about.

Doesn't sound like this guy went through the ingame options or tried to fix it himself and just blamed BioWare.

He addresses this in the thread, if you read it.

Personally I have had no issues with unresponsiveness, interrupts go when I want them and the commands that I'm giving are what my character is performing. I have since launch had the queue set at 0, so I guess my issue might be different since I have noticed some animation canceling on moves such as force sweep (which looks funny to me since it is jump->half turn->canceled->repeat) and cauterize, until I allow the moves to go through.

Also it should be noted that GCD in SWToR is 1.5s

You are mistaken though. Changing it to .00 does not fix all the unresponsiveness issues. Thats literally the copy pasta answer that people are giving on official forums and its just not right. It does help mind you, its just not the root of the problem because i have done this and its definitely still an issue. I don't truly know what could be causing it to feel so sluggish because i haven't really spent much time thinking about it myself but i do believe the terribly timed animations are part of the problem in making the game feel very unresponsive at times. That's not saying the animations are bad, because most of them are quite awesome, but some of them you stand still for a second doing literally nothing before you move, and the firing animation does not line up with damage on some ranged skills. A lot of skills also do the damage long before the numbers come up, and this really $#@!s with my head.

Alright, home.. can make a response now.

I'm having the unresponsiveness issue... It doesn't matter if I click the skill or press a hotkey, everything I press unless it's the first skill out (in one circumstance only) has anywhere between a .25-.5 second delay... the worst offender being Crouch for my gunslinger. For the people who arn't experiencing it, that's great! good for you... but the problem is ALOT of people are having it.. I doubt it's my computer (because I can still attack with what I want even at 3 fps... granted, I never actually SEE the hit.. but it happens) or my connection (i'm at literally, 55-65 ping all the time) so the last thing it has to be is something within the game itself.

I'm not saying this problem makes the game unplayable, it just make's it real frustrating when i'm standing in a spot for 2-4 seconds pressing the SKILL I want to use and it never goes off... The only time I never have delay is out of combat and i'm trying to stealth... that's the ONLY time I barely ever notice a delay, but everything else happens...

Another issue that Arcy mentioned that I get all the time is animation canceling. I'm sorry if there's a que system that's ment to make things more streamlined, but i'm going to go out on a limb and say that most top end players don't press buttons and wait.. we mash the ever loving $#@! out of our keys because it's what we need at that exact moment. Most people see rotations as 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 1 - 3 etc... well for me.. it's usually 111111- 111111 --2222222 -4444444- 111111. It was hard for me to play guild wars for awhile cause I kept mashing they keys like i'm used to doing and it kept having popup's saying to chill out.. I did eventually, but in a game where I NEED to be able to move at will, use skills at precise times when they're needed.. this quarter to half-second delay stops me.. I can't pull out optimal rotations or use things when I need them..

Like I said when I posted the thread.. I hope it gets fixed sooner than later for Bioware's sake... Sticking to a certain UI function such as Kotor is fine for a single player, but when you're dealing with split second decision pvp mmo's... it needs to function when it clearly doesn't for a vast majority of players...

I will still continue playing, but this problem will be the knife in the coffin... especially as other mmo's come closer towards completion.

While he doesn't give many specific answers to the questions it is at least a step in the right direction compared to the general unresponsiveness that some other games have had from the developers.
