George Zoeller on Ability Delay in SW:TOR

A post was just posted alittle while ago with a dev response/update about ability delay

Thanks to constructive feedback from the community, including some great videos, we were able to identify an issue that could cause abilities on global cooldown to appear available to the player, resulting in unresponsive/ignored player input. A fix for the issue is currently scheduled to go to the public test server with our next update.

Additionally, we have located an issue that would cause player input for certain instant abilities to fail in frantic combat situations, resulting in unpredictable and frustrating gameplay issues for the affected player. A fix for the issue is currently scheduled to go to the public test server with our next update.

Finally, our engineers have identified an issue introducing a significant delay between player input and ability execution in certain game situations, most notably (but not limited to) fast paced PvP. The magnitude of the delay varies with a number of factors, including processor hardware, but can, especially on dual core CPUs, result in a very perceivable reduction in game responsiveness. We are in the later stages of testing a fix for the problem and hope to be able to roll it out to the servers very soon.

We're still investigating a number of additional issues, along with some usability and quality of life improvements for responsiveness regarding player input, but the above mentioned developments should provide a very measurable improvement in combat responsiveness.

Thanks again for your patience and support and we hope to see you on the public test server to help us validate these improvements before pushing them to the live servers.

This is great news and will help make the game much more playable in situations that I was unable to achieve... Hopefully they'll get enough people on the PTR (especially after what happened with 1.1 >_>; ) to test this to make sure this quality of life improvement does actually improve the quality of life.

I really hope they make good on this update.

Hopefully this patch will drop within the next week. I have been reading about a lot of people who aren't paying for their second month until this issue is resolved.

Funny thing is... so many people gave me $#@! saying I Was wrong about this.

I told many people something wasn't right about this but they kept telling me I was doing it wrong... feels good to know that I wasn't doing it wrong...

Yeah i notice this alot in PVP. I'll sit there and spam my Force Slam and my guy will sit in half way in the air and keep trying to execute the ability but never perform it until i stop hitting the button. Definetly becomming very problematic and annoying.

I still have not had any issues with this. Apparently my computer is magical or something because the game runs as smooth as WoW for me.

You guys realize spamming the button messes up the UI. You hit the button once.... Once.. That's all that is required. If you only hit the ability once instead of facerolling on the keyboard like a baddie everything works perfectly. You hit it twice and it cancels the action. You hit it a third time and it does the ability again. You spam the button enough and it will look like your character is having a seizure.

Easy solution until they fix it? Stop abusing your keyboard and only hit the key once when you want to do something. It's like hitting the elevator button 55 times thinking it will get to your floor faster. One time is more than enough to get the job done.

I am willing to bet the minute you start doing this your reaction time will be faster all around and you will find you are actually better at the game. You also save yourself some Carpal Tunnel on the left wrist by reducing your average number of keystrokes.

I'm just gonna say this once and be done with it all

This happened to me when I was fighting npcs where i'm so laid back its' ridiculous. This happens to me in pvp when i'm mashing buttons.. so under both circumstances, it was happening.

This was a game issue and hopefully won't be shortly

TBH I can see people with lower end computers having problems, but they have to be on the bottom end of barely being able to play the game. And at that point you have to expect there to be a lot of problems, They are basically saying "Ok you can start the game and "play" it, but $#@! is going to suck A LOT, so update". When they have a Recommended hardware and bare minimum hardware you shouldnt go "Yay I can play cuz I have the minimum plus a newer gpu by 6 months!" You should be shooting for the recommended and up.

    I did, wicked.

That doesn't change the fact I hope they fix issue's like this so the majority that does enjoy the game much more than I did can enjoy it moreso. Just because I've stopped doesn't mean everyone else will.

For me it only happens on certain classes. Like my scoundrel I have major lag in responsiveness but my sentinel on another server has no problem what so ever, and the key bindings and everything is the same.
