Jeff Hickmen Dev Blog on Illum PvP Issue's.

    This just in from twitter.

After Game Update 1.1 went live, we discovered that the Open World PvP area on Ilum was not working as our PvP design team intended. As many of you know, large groups of players began capturing the Ilum control points, then 'camping' at the enemy's base. This led to a very frustrating experience for a number of players who were unable to leave their base and fight back against their attackers. It was not a fair gameplay experience. In addition, some players on the attacking side gained more Valor points than designed for the time they spent in PvP.

The amount of Valor granted from these activities was significantly more than intended and we are now carefully investigating players who were on Ilum during this period, and present at some of these 'camping' events. I can reassure you that those who were involved and who gained an unfair advantage over other players inappropriately will be carefully reviewed and action will be taken to restore game balance. This could include Valor adjustments or account actions in accordance with the severity of the issue.

We have made the decision not to enact a mass 'rollback' of Valor points for all players in the game, or even on Ilum. This would unfairly penalize some players who may not have been present during this event. Rest assured though, anyone and everyone who is found to have exploited the situation to an unreasonable degree will be investigated and actions taken as needed. Our in-game metrics are able to give us precise details on where players were, what they were doing and what rewards they gained.

We take any sort of situation where one group of players gains an unexpected or unintended advantage over other players very seriously and will act to ensure that all players can have a fair and fun game experience.

Thanks for your patience while we worked to resolve this issue. Our team worked diligently to get a patch ready to address this and other issues, and we're already seeing the results in improved battles on Ilum. As always we welcome your feedback and will continue to improve moving forward!

Smart move with the no-rollbacks part.. mainly because they had waited too long... but I love how it was saying the 'enemy' side when everyone knows full well it was the imperial faction imbalance that was causing the issue. Still, nice to see a somewhat better response than they had given in the past two days. I still believe they won't even rollback any valor (if they do, no one will know) for those who were guilty of 'exploiting' because they never rollbacked the credit exploit that let players get upwards of billions of credits (they just got a 7 day ban...)

    Cheers.

So instead of fixing the problem, and instead of rolling back, they intend to just ban every one who was PVPing on the winning side?

Glad I avoided this game like the plague.

when the morning comes it doesn't seem to say an awful lot to me

Everyone's quick to say that this was the best launch an MMO has ever had..

Yeah, compared to many, many other mmo's (including WoW) this game was fantastic cause of server stability and being able to play day one without resets/crashed and everything else..

Then a week later, all the 'problems' started to appear more frequently

When you sign the TOS for a game there is always a section that talks about exploiting game mechanics unfairly. Everybody knows good and damn well that if you exploit the game you will likely get in trouble for it. If you join in on that sort of thing you shouldn't act surprised when you get punished for it. It's your own damn fault and you should have known better.

No where in there did he say that they were going to ban everyone on the winning side. But rather "I can reassure you that those who were involved and who gained an unfair advantage over other players inappropriately will be carefully reviewed and action will be taken to restore game balance. That means the people that were full well EXPLOITING the system will be dealt with. When we have exploits for TF2 or any other game when someone is largely exploiting the game we take action on them. Same. Thing.

And of course they aren't going to mass roll back, not everyone was exploiting the game, infact its a small part of the playerbase that was blatantly doing it, a lot of us were fighting on Ilum without exploiting the system and having a fun time and getting lots of Valor, but not exploit level.
