Oh that's what that thing means???
...all this time I thought it just defaulted to 10 for compliance with the T.o.S. or some crap

My steam rating has been a consistent 10 for approximately 6-8 months now. For the first time in a very long time, it dipped to a 9.7 last week. Somehow it has now slipped to a 7.1, easiest the lowest, basically since my purchase of tf2 almost 2 years ago. I don't find myself tiring of any games, especially tf2, but with the tides of change rapidly approaching in my academia, the times of "I'll never get older and stop playing video games" seem a playful naivety to the rush of life. For anyone with a steam rating still at 10, don't look at it with discouragement if you enjoy the time spent playing and you still have the time to do so. Things move quickly, and 10's simply another number we lose in the pace of ourselves and what we become. In the mean time, hopefully I can keep my rating at a passing grade, for the sake of things behind me.

I think the amount of time you spend gaming once you've "grown up" has to do with what kind of career you pursue. I'm pursuing a career in games journalism, so I'll inevitably be gaming a lot then.

Shows the ratings. Honestly, it'd be cool to be a 10 just because it's a number and people are always competitive. But mine isn't going to be 10 all the time either. I've been playing LoL for the passed couple of weeks. And I'm going to play the hell out of Battlefield 3 when it comes out. What it comes down to is your experience. I've got over 1600 hours in Team Fortress 2. Who cares if I didn't play Steam for >32 hours in the passed 2 weeks?

Gamers or real gamers avg in 200 hours a week -.- and does not require steam!
I been dropping in the past week to 7.9 now and hoping for a 0 once bf3 starts up next week

I never claimed your steam rating in some way reflects your dedication or enjoyment of gaming. I only used it as barometer of change in my life, and perhaps an example in others as well.
