I have a Dell Studio XPS 7100 case on my desktop. I was wondering if its possible to put on an aftermarket side panel on it with fans. Want to keep my pc cooler and this is what I thought about for a fix. Im not to hardware savy and I wanted to keep cost down and be able to do myself. Thanks

Hmm.. I wonder if we would see enough sale traffic to warrant a FS/WTB section for hardware. We already have quite a few underutilized sections under this heading. I'm not sure how to work it moving forward.

    Gh0st,
You absolutely can put a different side panel onto your machine. Just double check the size, and then see how it latches onto your machine, then buy another side panel (one that you like) that locks on and is the same size as your tower. *Most* companies, if you call them, will sell just the side panel to something. so if you call up whatever tower manufacturer, let them know you just want a side panel, they can usually ship you one.

Simple cheap fix for now..Bought a $15 desk fan thats as big as the space of the machine after pulling the side pannel off and just sat it right there and put on high lol. Not exactly proper but it will work for now I guess until I get some money.

Gh0st, if you are worried about dust or anything (for some people its an issue, others don't care) you could put a pillow case in front of the fan, or the back, and set it on low to filter out some of the dust, it would have to be a pretty thin pillow case though - or some other thin, airy material. I have done it before, it does indeed work for the short term.
