What do you use to record in game?

Currently I use X-Fire but it takes forever to upload and such and then no one can watch it without an X-Fire account. Looking for something different. I tried Fraps but it would only let me record about 5 minutes. No I did not pay for it. Looking to start making vids and posting them. Also how come I can only post 10 minutes on youtube when I clearly see theres people that have stuff for like 100 hours. Thanks!

    1. I use fraps, I can record as long as I want.

    2. You gotta get "privileged" to upload longer than 10 minutes. Actually, they made the regular limit 15 minutes, so you should be at that. If you upload only gameplay, I don't think you can get past the limit.

Strange. But I can't really help there. if uploading videos that can be considered "copyright", you will probably be stuck at the 10 minute limit still.

It will depend on how many videos you've uploaded before, and your account needs to be in good standing.

I use Fraps. However, I appreciate that it breaks the files down for me into chunks (that can be re-assembled in anything, like even Windows Movie Maker flawlessly), because they are absolutely gigantic.

when the morning comes it doesn't seem to say an awful lot to me

I use dxtory, but if it is a source game, then I will take a demo, and record the replay of it.

This saves me from having to make a separate Tutorial on it.....
What I use, generally only costs me 10 frames lost in performance, which is a crapload less than I lose running FRAPS.

I use CamStudio: CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software ..... And Avidemux to do the Editing and compressing.
Both are completely free and don't require a Quadcore just to run smoothly. (hear that Roland?)
HOWEVER: if uploading to You-tube, sometimes "Freemake" is a lot easier for the editing & encoding
(but will be scrambled if you don't standardize the Framerate!)

For Camstudio, I have the Video options set like this:

    Camsetting.jpg

It's weird about Capture rate.... it expects you to have the C.F.E.m. multiply by the Playback to result in somewhere around 1024. So you have to use a calculator to get it to synch right if you take longer video than say... 5 minutes. (or just extract the "main track", use Audacity to Stretch the audio out, and then encode it.).

For the Codec, it took me a long time to find the right one but the Best one IMO opinion for both performance and stable video formats, is the K-Lite "ffdshow" configured to "MJPEG" 100% quality. If I'm lagging a bit too much in game, I'll play with the Performance sliders to get some frames back.

When encoding the Videos for Youtube, I found the Bitrate doesn't seem to be able to exceeed 1900 or whatever. IOW: Youtube basically re-encodes whatever you U/L and turns it into grainy POOPY. You COULD upload something bigger than 1080 (tall) in like 3300 Bitrate and 120fps... but it's still going to look like a 1400 bitrate ^ 25fps piece of crap so don't waste your time encoding it too high. As long as the Height of the video is 720 or 1080, youtube *should* eventually have a 720 & 1080 "HD" version available a while after your video has already finished uploading. (that means a horizontal resolution near 1440 depending on your Vid card aspect-ratio).
